Dr. Jennifer Schaefer, DVM, MPH-VPH, graduated from The Ohio State University in 2012. After graduation, she and her husband Mark relocated to Ft. Irwin, CA, where Dr. Schaefer managed the veterinary facility on the military post. As an Army Captain, she was responsible for the care of military working dogs, horses, and the personal animals of service members. Later, the family moved back to Ohio to be closer to family while raising their two children.
During this time, Dr. Schaefer pursued her passion for shelter medicine by serving as the Medical Director at the Humane Society of Delaware County for five years. Seeking sunnier weather, she and her family made the move to South Carolina, where she has been supporting the bond between humans and animals.
As our Medical Director, Dr. Schaefer brings her extensive experience in veterinary public health and her surgical expertise to our team. She is known for her exceptional skills in soft tissue surgery, dentistry/oral surgery, and pain management. Dr. Schaefer places great importance on preventative care and enjoys collaborating with families to create personalized treatment plans that meet the unique needs of both pets and their owners.
