Pain Management for Greenville SC Pets

Greenville SC Veterinary Pain Management Photo

Our pet’s feel and interpret pain the same way we do. They are very good at hiding any pain they may be experiencing, which we want to help fix as fast as possible.

We have many options for pain management, including:

  • Medications
  • Supplements
  • Physical therapy

Because animals don’t have the same language skills as their human counterparts, they show their pain differently.

Signs that your pet is experiencing pain may include:

  • Decreased appetite
  • Lack of energy, disinterest in play
  • Restlessness, inability to “settle down” and sleep
  • Inappropriate elimination
  • Displaying aggression or tenseness when petted or touched
  • Cats may stop grooming themselves
  • Cats may also hide and stop socializing

Causes of Pain

Some causes of your pet’s pain may be due to osteoarthritis, post-surgical healing, dental disease or an internal problem.

Pain can also arise from injury suffered during play or other activities. Each breed will handle pain from injury a little differently. So it’s important for owners to monitor their pets after times like a long hike in the hills, or after rough play in the backyard with other dogs.

When our pets experience pain, it can slow their healing process. If you notice any of these behaviors in your pet it is important that you call us and make an appointment with one of our veterinarians to evaluate your pet’s health.
