Dr. Karl Derek Wessinger, DVM
Dr. Derek Wessinger grew up in Clinton, South Carolina. He received his B.S. degree form Presbyterian College. While a student there he played football for the Blue Hose, and has been a lifelong supporter of his alma mater. Dr. Wessinger came to Cleveland Park after his graduation from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. For the past 36 years Dr. Wessinger has traveled thousands of miles caring for large animals all over Greenville County. His dedication to Large Animal Medicine has earned him the esteem of clients near and far. Now Dr. Wessinger's focus has changed to small animals. He welcomes the opportunity to daily visit with clients and friends who now drive to bring their small animals to see him.
Dr. Wessinger is an avid outdoorsrman who loves living the quiet life on the shores of Stoddard Mill Lake with his wife, Jean. He shares a passion for horses with his daughters who love to ride, and he loves long walks in the woods accompanied by his own much loved dogs. He and his wife are actively involved in the life of their church. His favorite pastime is spending time with his four daughters and his grandchildren.
Dr. Meighan Hammett, DVM
Dr. Hammett grew up near Columbia, South Carolina, but she fell in love with Greenville while she was a student at Furman University. After receiving an B.A. degree in Biology, she went on to attend the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her degree in 2013. Her curriculum emphasized both Large and Small Animal Medicine. She was very excited to return to the upstate and join the Cleveland Park team following her graduation. Her special interests include soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and cuddling new puppies.
Since she became a member of our staff, she has met and married the love of her life, Jake.They both enjoy renovating and DYI projects and have spent many happy hours creating a beautiful home together. They love to hike and enjoy running as time allows. They have since moved to the country where there is more room for pets and their sons, Asher and Levi to play.
Dr. Hammett is studious, serious, and very focused. She is an excellent diagnostician and surgeon. She is very thorough and committed to providing the best care possible for pets. Cleveland Park clients know they can depend on her.
Dr. Heather Miller, DVM
While a student at Ohio State University, Dr. Miller completed externships at the Columbia Zoo and Aquarium, at the University of Georgia in the exotic animal speciality ward, and at Disney's Animal Kingdom. She returned home to South Carolina and became part of the Cleveland Park family in 2006 when she became a member of the staff at Cleveland Park East in Simpsonville. In 2010 she accepted a job at the Greenville Zoo as the Deputy Administrator for Animal Health. She enjoyed the challenge of caring for exotic species for just over 5 years. In 2015 we happily welcomed her back to work in our Greenville hospital three days a week. Her new schedule gives her more time to focus on her growing family and to train for the occasional marathon. She and her husband are a great team and very generous to open their home to foster children. With three children of their own, dogs, cats, birds and bunnies, theirs is a busy, lively, and happy household! Dr. Miller is an extremely kind, compassionate, and caring person. She loves pets and people and we know that we are very fortunate to have her on our staff.
Dr. Madelynn Garrelts, DVM
Dr. Madelynn Garrelts grew up in Peachtree City, Georgia surrounded by dogs, cats, and horses. She received her veterinary education from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. Her undergraduate degree was completed at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where she studied Animal Science and worked with dairy cattle. She decided to attend these schools to become a veterinarian after realizing this job would be the perfect combo of her interest in a career in the medical field and love for working with animals.
Between finishing school and moving to South Carolina, she worked as an emergency veterinarian in Georgia. She received the UGA CVM award for Proficiency in Emergency and Critical Care. While she still very much loves emergency cases, Dr. Garrelts also has an interest in soft tissue surgery, dental care, and work with geriatric animals. She looks forward to the close doctor-client relationship that general practice offers, as well as working with the team at Cleveland Park Animal Hospital.
Dr. Garrelts has relocated to Greenville and lives with her fiancé, Owen. She has two dogs: an awkward but sweet collie named Nabb and a pushy but friendly chocolate lab named Lucy. Her hobbies include walking and hiking with her dogs after work, trying new restaurants in the area, decorating her home, reading, and traveling whenever possible.
Dr. Andrew W. Roark, DVM
When Dr. Andy Roark walked through our doors for the first time in 2012, he brought with him a warm smile, a contagious laugh, and about a million ideas for how to make things better. It has been a pleasure to work with him and to watch his career as an inspirational speaker and author soar. He is an award-winning columnist for DVM360 and has been a regular contributor on Vetstreet.com. Dr. Roark's Facebook page has grown to more than 250,000 followers. He reaches out to those seeking happiness, humor, and wisdom in the practice of veterinary medicine. Thousands more follow him on Instagram and Twitter. His humorous and educational videos on YouTube have been viewed more than half a million times. He has made great strides in creating community within the veterinary profession. He brings veterinary professionals together for support, encouragement, education, and an exchange of ideas.
His efforts have not gone unnoticed. Dr. Roark received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from the University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2015, 2016, and 2017, he was named Practice Management Speaker of the Year in Orlando, Florida at the North American Veterinary Conference, one of the world's largest veterinary conferences. In 2013 he was noted as a rising star in the profession when Veterinary Practice News named him " One of the Top 25 Veterinarians to Watch in 2013." In 2017 he founded Uncharted Veterinary Conference, " a revolutionary marketing and communication conference for those foraging their own path and building their own community." The conference has brought hundreds of veterinary professionals from all over the country to Greenville. Another successful venue is DrAndyRoark.com. He also has a veterinary consulting company, Tall Oaks Enterprises.
Dr. Roark's wife, Dr. Alison Roark, is a highly respected animal physiologist who is a member of the faculty at Furman University. They have two beautiful daughters and successfully juggle very busy schedules. Dr. Andy Roark is involved in all three of our hospitals. Staff members look forward to the days he spends working with them. We feel very fortunate to have him as our own "Dr. Andy."
Dr. Ashlee Barr, DVM
Ashlee Brown is a graduate of Clemson University, where she studied Animal Science and Spanish and was part of the Women's NCAA Rowing Program. She then went to University of Georgia where she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She then completed an internship at Equine Medical Center of Ocala before moving into mixed animal private practice.
Although her practice is predominantly western medicine and surgery, Dr. Brown is also certified in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. She has a special interest in geriatric patient care, musculoskeletal disorders and degenerative disease. Along with Western Medicine, TCVM, nutritional consultation, environmental care, and herbal therapy, she hopes to bring comfort and relief to patients who are otherwise experiencing pain and suffering.
Dr. Brown lives in Simpsonville, SC with her husband, Philip, their dog, Basil, and cat, Decaf. She enjoys hiking, running, road biking and swimming. She loves Yoga and Orange Theory as well! Dr Brown loves to travel and incorporate Veterinary medicine into her adventures. Her parents, Mark and Cindy Brown, live in Greenville, SC. She has an older brother, Matthew, and two younger sisters, Rebecca and Kristina.
Dr. Catherine Roseveare, DVM
Education: University of Georgia, University of South Carolina
Dr. Roseveare has been with us on a part-time basis since February 2012. She is from Atlanta and received her DVM from the University of Georgia. Additionally, she holds a Master’s in Public Health from the University of South Carolina. In addition to serving at CPAH, Dr. Roseveare is an adjunct professor at Spartanburg Community College where she teaches Anatomy and Physiology.
Dr. Roreveare's quiet gentle nature make her a joy to work with. She is an excellent practitioner, and a valued member of our staff. Her schedule allows her to follow her dream and passion for veterinary medicine. It also gives her time for her first priority: being a wife and mother. She and her husband, Mark, have created a warm and loving home for their daughters, a cat named "Chewey," and a dog named "Cookie."
Lori grew up in Colorado but fell in love with Greenville, South Carolina when she and her husband, Mark, first came here twenty years ago. Along with their three children, they moved, opened a new business, and put down roots. The business, Rhino Linings of Greenville, has flourished.
Mark and Lori love long walks in downtown Greenville, the local entertainment, parks, and great restaurants. Lori is a multi-talented manager who will tackle any job. She has even been known to fix the plumbing!!
Brittney Whiten joined our staff in 2005. Her warm smile and quiet and courteous demeanor endear her to clients as soon as they walk through the door. She communicates well with clients and is respected by all the members of the staff.
Her favorite pastime is spending time with her husband, Ben, and their son, Dylan along with their dog, Duke, and cat, Shelly. Brittney and Ben enjoy following Clemson sports, working on their home, and spending time with family.
Haley is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. She joined the staff of Cleveland Park in September 2012.
Hayley is very patient and kind, she loves ballet, tap dancing, and reading.She enjoys being a receptionist at Cleveland Park Animal Hospital because she loves greeting our fantastic clients and our furry, and sometimes scaly patients!
She is happiest when she is spending time with her husband and two sons, Chandler and Carson. On the weekend they enjoy traveling and experiencing new and exciting things!
Lauren Wong was born in New York and raised in Florida. She moved to Greenville in 1997.
She has loved calling Greenville home ever since. She attended Greenville Technical College and became a Certified Veterinary Assistant. She became a member of the Cleveland Park family in 2012...and we have loved her ever since! Lauren contributes so much to our hospital in numerous ways. Besides being a knowledgeable, warm, and welcoming receptionist, she is the staff's go-to person for resolving problems and getting things done.
Lauren is a talented self-taught bass and cello player. She and her husband, Will, played with their band, Mountain Homes, for several years. But that was before twin daughters arrived! Now, Lauren and Will enjoy spending time with their beautiful little girls, Edith and Esme. Their household includes three dogs: Booger, Oliver, and Emmylou. They enjoy playing and listening to music, hiking and camping.
Kaylee was born and raised in Easley, South Carolina. She joined the Cleveland Park family in July of 2019.
Kaylee is currently going to Tri-County Technical College for the Veterinary Technician Programand plans to graduate in 2021.
She enjoys going to the lake and spending time with her Cane Corso, Zeus.
Natalie is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. She joined our team in March 2016. Natalie enjoys attending her son's baseball games and spending time with her friends and family. She is happiest when she is with her 2 sons and husband, Landon. The Stokes family share their home their dog Jenson Boo Bear and Layla Bear.
Licensed Veterinary Technicians
Amanda began as a grooming assistant at Cleveland Park Animal Hospital in February 2002. Her conscientious work ethic and compassion for patients earned her a promotion to veterinary assistant in January 2004 and is currently putting herself through school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
Amanda enjoys exercise and spending time with her husband, Todd, and daughter, Courtney.
Nicki began work with Cleveland Park Animal Hospital as an intern with Tri-County Technical College’s Veterinary Technician program in May 2005 and was hired full time in May 2006.
In the past few years, she has added to the Cleveland Park family two beautiful daughters, Avery and Raegan, and a handsome son, James. She and her family enjoy their spare time caring for the many animals on their farm and traveling to new and exciting places!
Samantha was born in Delaware, lived in Chicago, and moved to Greenville in 1998. She completed the Veterinary Technology Degree Program at Tri-County Technical College in May 2018 and has been a part of the Cleveland Park Family since August of 2017.
Samantha enjoys playing with her Bernedoodle, Matilda, reading thriller novels, long walks in Target, and trying out new restaurants in Greenville.
Morgan joined our team in May of 2017. She went to Tri-County Technical College and graduated in 2012. She enjoys working at Cleveland Park Animal Hospital mostly because we are AAHA accredited and practice the highest quality of good medicine. She also enjoys learning and helping treat our exotic patients.
Morgan enjoys being outdoors, playing video games, and listening to music.
She shares her home with 5 cats: Rikku, Tank, TJ, Lily, and Appa. 1 dog named Roxy.
Megan joined our team in October 2017. She graduated from Tri-County Technical College in 2013 from the Veterinary Technology program.
Megan enjoys spending time with her husband, Van, playing video games and playing with her cat, Billy, and dog, Gi.
Christy was born and raised in Clemson. She joined our Cleveland Park family in July of 2018.
Christy attended Clemson University and majored in BioScience with a minor in Forensics. About 2 years into her schooling she decided that she wanted to work with animals and enrolled in the Veterinary Technician Program at Tri-County Technical College where she graduated in May of 2017!
Christy enjoys spending time with her family and cat Jerry, hiking, Clemson Football, traveling to new and exciting places.
Madison joined our team in May of 2019. She currently attends Tri-County Technical College and plans to graduate in 2020 with a Bachelors in Animal Sciences.
Madison and her boyfriend, Jason, recently bought a farm where they are learning to care for large animals. Madison enjoys running, reading, and spending time with her Bulldog, Vinny and Alaskan Malamute, Bruin.
Stephanie was born and raised in Spartanburg. She joined the Cleveland Park family in May of 2019.
Stephanie completed the Veterinary Technician program at Tri-County Technical College in 2016.
She enjoys horseback riding, camping, riding 4-wheelers, and photography. She shares her home with her 3 dogs; Garth, Paisley, Dash, and her horse, Dusty.
Donna Greene is a Greenville native who has been an important part of our team since 1995. Donna is our own resident "cat expert" as she has numerous cats of her own. She loves cats and they love her! She is also especially attached to her little Yorkies; they get lots of love and attention from her. Donna loves arts and crafts when she has time, and she loves photography. She is always the person behind the lens documenting every party and special occasion in our hospital.
Her warm and compassionate heart make her an invaluable member of our team. She is an encourager, giver of hugs, and a caring person who treats her co-workers like family. Clients love her, as well, for all the same reasons.
Caitlyn was born in Tennessee and moved to Greenville in 2004. She has been with the Cleveland Park Family off and on since 2011.
Caitlyn enjoys going to concerts, traveling to fun and exciting places, going out with friends, and kayaking. Caitlyn plays an active role in the US Army Reserves as a Combat Medic.
Elizabeth was born and raised in Greenville. She joined the Cleveland Park family in June of 2019. She completed the Veterinary Assistant Program at Greenville Technical College in 2018.
Elizabeth enjoys hiking with friends, traveling to Mexico, and spending time with her Chihuahua, Blueberry.
Dalia joined the Cleveland Park family in February of 2020. She enjoys bonding and caring for the patients and creating lifelong relationships. Dalia plans to attend the Veterinary Technician program at Greenville Tech.
She enjoys playing video games, writing, drawing, listening to music, and spending time with her friends and family.
Donna Kirby has been a pet groomer since she moved from Burlington, Vermont in 1991. She became a part of our team in 1997. For 21 years she has provided excellent grooming care for countless Cleveland Park pets. Her grooming skills have earned her honors. For three consecutive years she and the Cleveland Park team have won the "Best of the Upstate" award for pet grooming. Clients often express their appreciation for her. The fact that so many people have brought their much loved pets to her on a regular basis for many years speaks volumes!
Pet grooming is a valuable service, and it is hard work. We continue to appreciate her skills and work ethic. Donna has two children: Crista, who joined our staff in 2011 as Donna's assistant, and a son, Todd. She is also very proud of three beautiful granddaughters.
Crista Kirby joined our team in 2011 as her mother's grooming assistant. She loves working with animals and has been taught how to groom by the very best! Crista and Donna have been part of the team that has won "Best of the Upstate" honors for three consecutive years! Crista inherited her mother's work ethic and devotion to family. She is a wonderful mother to two beautiful little girls who love playing outdoors and going to the beach with Mom and Dad! Caring for her own family pets is also part of her daily routine. We are so happy that she is part of our team!
